Is silence worth the sacrifice in power? Or do you think deafness goes hand-in-hand with overclocking? Make you choices people 8-)

I have a Thermal Take Smart II fan on my CPU running at full speed, which is pretty damn loud. I also have 3 80mm Case fans. My computer is loud, a little louder than I would like.

I have a coolermaster silent 80mm CPU cooler, a Zalman heatpipe on my 9700Pro, a relatively silent PSU and no case fans. The only problem is that my cavernous chieftec dragon tends to slightly amplify sound ;D . Other than that it's pretty much silent :) . My CPU is at around 44C idle and 52C under load, I could probablt overclock it a little but I don't feel the need 8-).

i vote for both, if money was no object.

but as it is, i say silence

components last longer if they are underclocked and there is no need to oc your system all the time, surfing the net or writing an email etc doesnt require a kickass system

my loudest item is my tt volcano 9 which will be making way for a zalman silent cooler pretty soon!

then on to my ti4800se as the fan is on its last legs anyway, so might as well give it the silent treatment too.

my case (antec slk3700bqe) has been my best investment as it has space for 2 120mm fans (1xfront and 1xrear) so it should be nice and quite once i am done with it.
